Science
The Science curriculum at the Chorister School is exciting, practical and very relevant to life, which instills an enthusiasm for the subject in the pupils. It begins in Reception where it is introduced as part of Knowledge and Understanding of the World. As the pupils progress through Key Stage 1 and beyond, topics are expanded so that later knowledge builds upon earlier investigations.
By Year 5 pupils are taught in a fully equipped laboratory by a science specialist and the experiences gained here enable them to confidently use equipment usually only encountered in the first year of secondary school. Data logging equipment and an interactive whiteboard are also extensively used in lessons.
Throughout the School the focus is on children conducting experiments for themselves, making observations and drawing their own conclusions which they present in a variety of ways. Not only are important practical skills developed but there is also an emphasis placed on thinking skills, which can be applied, not only in Science but across the whole curriculum.
